A Study on the Job Satisfaction of Cosmetologists



Abstract
This study attempts to identify the job satisfaction of cosmetologists working at skin care salons, hair salons, makeup studios. The subjects were 99 cosmetologists in Seoul and Kyounggi-do. The instrument used for this study was a structured questionnaire which was Slavitt's Job Satisfaction Scale and consisted of 30 items. The data were collected during the period from October 1 to October 31, 2001. The data were analyzed with the SPSS WIN program using frequency, percentage, Mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA.
The results of this study were summarized as follows;
1. The mean score of total job satisfaction was 3.29 of 5 point Likert scale(range of score was 2.43 to 4.50). Job prestige(3.91) among the component factors of the job satisfaction was the highest value and then interaction(3.31), autonomy(3.27), organizational requirement(3.18), task requirement(3.17), and pay(2.81) was the lowest.
2. Job satisfaction according to demosociographic characteristics of subjects showed significant differences in the age(t=2.193, p=.014), period of work(F=3.607, .031).
On the basis of the results of this study, further studies with large sample sizes will be necessary to verify the results of this study.
